Ali Mohammed
Ali worked in the Village Lab as a field placement graduate student. Hailing from Erbil, Kurdistan, his work extends to diverse communities in Winnipeg, emphasizing inclusivity and cross-cultural awareness. Ali has over a year of experience with the Main Street Project’s shelter and Intoxicated Persons Detention Act programs, which cultivated a deep understanding of homelessness and substance abuse issues. His experience also includes years of working with IDPs and refugees in UNHCR camps, highlighting his dedication to supporting those facing complex challenges.
Since graduating from his MSW at the University of Manitoba, he’s started working as a social worker with the KSMA Child and Family Services agency. In this role, he focuses on providing support to children and families and using Jordan's Principle as a critical resource to ensure that Indigenous children receive the necessary services and support without delay. Whether it’s accessing healthcare, educational resources, or specialized services, he works to remove barriers and ensure that these children receive timely and effective assistance.
He has also had the opportunity to attend various trainings and events, which have been instrumental in expanding his knowledge and enhancing his skills. These experiences have equipped him with new tools and approaches that he applies in his daily work, helping to improve outcomes for the children and families he serves.
