Marni Still
Graduate Research Assistant
Marni Still is a settler living and working on Treaty 1 territory in Manitoba and is a Ph.D. student in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. She previously practiced as a school clinician and is a strong advocate for community-based research, social justice, and anti-oppressive practice.
Marni obtained her BA in psychology (2015), a BSW (2017), and a Master of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledges (2020) from the U of M. She was the recipient of the Manitoba Graduate Scholarship for her MSW research, which explored the experiences of First Nation parents who had a child die by suicide or survive an attempt.
Marni has been a research assistant for three multi-provincial research projects over the last few years, and her personal research interests include Indigenous youth suicide, youth mental well-being, health, and violence, environmental justice, and decolonization in research and social work practice.
In addition to her research endeavors, she is a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Social Work, with experience teaching in the BSW, MSW, and MSW-IK programs. Marni is currently a proud member of the Village Lab family and is part of the core team for the Gigii-Bapiimin project. In her free time, Marni enjoys spending time in nature with her family and friends and is an avid hiker.
