Mikayla Hunter
Investigaytors Winnipeg Coordinator
Mikayla Hunter (she/they) is a white, queer, non-binary settler living and working on Treaty 1 territory in Manitoba. Her research interests include 2SLGBTQIA+ health and healthcare experiences, data equity, primary care and health services, and health system accessibility/equity improvements.
They completed their Bachelor of Arts at the University of Winnipeg, obtaining a double major in Rhetoric, Writing & Communications and Psychology. Her master’s thesis work focused on the primary healthcare experiences of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and her PhD work will follow up on those qualitative results generated in their MSc using quantitative data. Mikayla has been involved in a number of research projects involving 2SLGBTQIA+ health, such as cancer care, infectious diseases, and gender-affirming healthcare.
Mikayla looks forward to working with the Village Lab and the Winnipeg Investigaytors to build research capacity in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and strengthen community bonds.
In their free time, Mikayla enjoys gardening, textile arts such as knitting and crocheting, reading, and spending time with her partner and two cats.
